The 2023 edition began on the last weekend of August but was hit by severe storms that stranded thousands of people on-site. Torrential rains turned roads and grounds into mud and also postponed the event’s highlight, when a totem representing a human figure is burned.

Over 70,000 people attending this year’s Burning Man were advised to conserve food, water, and fuel after a strong storm hit the area. Participants saw their campsites engulfed in ankle-deep thick mud, and organizers had to restrict vehicle entry and exit.

The chaos and harsh conditions participants are facing are being shared on social media, and the chaotic images from the site are shocking; there are also many reports about the mud and efforts to leave the event.
